A Shocking Statement

I got a problem....................

I keep getting static shocks off 3045 and recently its got worse. ive heared stories off other drivers that the earthing isnt brilliant on these freight-shakers but this is getting beyond a joke.

Ever since 3045 and i were partnered up she's given me the odd zap, usually when i touch the passenger side door lock or the backs of the seats. Lately i get zapped off everything, i got a belt off my TomTom the other day and it was so powerfull it switched it on and i also got a zap off the CB.

i use this lighty up mouse on my laptop and sometimes when i brush passed a seat the lights flicker.

Anyway i reported it to Penske(thats who we lease from) so im hoping the take a look at it this week. it might even be to do with the temperatures or the fact that i had a jacket on but i will keep you posted on that one.

Just in case anyone thinks im just being a whimp, i have got a phobia about electricity and having a high static level is a real pain. Believe it or not when i was a lad i couldnt wear normal wind up watches, they used to stop on me, as if i was magnetising the spring or something.

Lethbridge Or Bust

Left Saskatoon and sent a sattelite message (second one in 2 days actually) just to remind people that i was due into Edmonton and needed a load down to Lethbridge so i could have my 4 days off.

Yes you read correctly i just took 4 days off, i think i deserve it coz ive only had 2 days off since christmas and i got tons of stuff to do at home.

Any way Peter (Hi Peter, i know you read this blog) came up trumps again and even as i crossed the border into Alberta there was a load waiting for me. i drove into the Edmonton yard, swapped trailers (20 minutes including pretrip checks) and i was rolling again.

I didnt spare the horses heading south, 3045 was on top form, cruise set at max, nose pointing south, we didnt even stop for more fuel. just over 5 hours later we were sat at the brand new Husky in Lethbridge, 3045 slurped a couple of hundred bucks' worth of "go juice" and we stuck a few litres in the trailer too then dropped the trailer in the H&R yard and signed off.

Jan turned up and that was it till Friday...........................................

The Journeys End

we pick up the story as we pull out of the Ice Palace which is the Husky in Headingly. we have fuel in the tanks and coffee in Lyndon so we scuttle west along the highway then head north east up the highway 16 towards Saskatoon where we will be staying tonight so hopefully it wont be quite so cold.

The temperature last night was a nipple chilling -32 degrees C and a wind chill factor taking it down to a brass monkey neutering -42 degrees C.

imagine (if you will) the night heater. it was sucking in air at -42 and was trying to turn it into something liveable, it was a bit of a losing battle really but looking on the bright side, at least i didnt freeze to death during the night.

Okay heres a follow on from the last post, the driver's side window was iced up again on the inside so i had a great idea, wipe it down with windex and get rid of the ice.

Took the windex out of the door pocket (yes the door pocket so this was inside the cab) and tried to squirt the windows.

The windex wouldnt squirt and heres why !!

Mornin' Everybody

Well nobody can say this isnt up to the minute reporting. I just woke up in Winterypeg and it is COLD. Last night i walked over to the shop (400m) and as soon as i got out of the cab i could feel icycles in my nose, by the time i had taken 5 steps my hands, nose and ears were numb. By the time i had gone 100m they actually hurt. By the time i got to the shop i was passed shaking and felt physically ill. That was cold.

Well got back to the truck and got in my sleeping bag,under the blanket and nder the quilt and it was toasty. Had a great nights sleep and this morning i woke up feeling great, now im contemplating a shower, fuel and some breakfast, but first i have to convnce myself its a good idea to get out of this nice warm sleeping bag. The cab is very cold and theres ice on the inside of the windows again.

Oh well thats the end of the post so i guess its time to rock and roll.......................

Woke up to the beep of the sattelite, i got a job to get me back home (well Edmonton anyway)..........great.

Its a Campbells LTL (Less than a truck load) ((multidrop))..........shit 'n' flippin' bugger it.

Everytime i get one of those it always way over weight on the drives, o well might be lucky this time...................

Backed under it, my suspension guage spun round to 90 psi and 3045 blew a little smoke out of her tail pipe again. I phoned in and told my dispatcher who told me to go and scale out any way.

Anyway i was 40,000 lbs (way over) on the drives with the trailer wheels squeezed right up wasnt good news but it was expected news so i took it back round to the yard to be re worked.

An hour later i was on my merry little way and did a 4 hour drive to North Bay where i pulled the curtains and went back to sleep.

Woke up next morning and drove to Nipigon, pulled the curtains and went to sleep.

Woke up next morning and my nose and ears were numb, a plastic container had fallen in front of my night heater intake and caused it to switch off during the night. I woke up, pulled the quilt over my head and went back to sleep...............

When i eventually got up the cab was freezing (literally) check out the pic of my drivers door window, that is ice on the inside.

Anyway, i fuelled up and got underway and am now at Headingly Flying J, dunno what the temperature is but my night heater cant keep up so it must be cold, i jumped out of the cab earlier and the cold makes your eyes water then freezes your tears, for that reason i have decided against running round the truck park naked, not tonight anyway.

Well thats it were all up to date, my plan for tomorrow is to get to Saskatoon and the next day into Edmonton for a load back down to the 'Bridge and a few days off.
