Got pulled in at the scales

Left Well 'Ard this morning and planned to end up at Great Falls which meant just a short bimble in tomorrow morning.

Anyway the scales at Lima, Montana were open so in i went,

Steers over the scale...................green light, great
Drives over the scale...................green light, getting better
Trailers on the scale....................flashing red, oh shit, oops sorry i meant oh s**t.

So i pulled round and parked up and grabbed the paperwork.

The scale officer comes out and says he wants my logbook before i can write anything in it, reluctantly i passed it over and he points out that he called me to get the blog address.

Actually no thats a lie, he could hear an air leak from the trailer, and when we went to look, an air hose had come loose.

We went inside and he started scrutinising my last 7 days worth of logs. While he did that i went back outside and made a repair with my trusty pliers multi-tool. It was easy enough i just put all the pieces back together, clamped it down and tightened it up.

I went back in and he was still scrutinising everything and he wanted to know all about the towing thing because of the co-driver. We then went back outside and he did a level 2 inspection on the truck and trailer.

I was there for an hour and a half and he wanted to know about everything, he spent a lot of time comparing my times at locations and distances.

In the end the only thing he wasnt happy with was the way my fire extinguisher was secured but i will get that sorted when i get back to Lethbridge.

It was a bit harrowing as this was the first time i have been pulled in on my own but i have to say that even though he was thorough, he was very polite and wasnt trying to catch me out.

The moral of the story is stay legal and dont try to bulshit coz they just know.....................
