Britishexpats.com, friendly advice site or advertising agency

Before we get back to the important stuff i would just like to say a couple of things, firstly i cannot post the reply i got from Britishexpats because they say it is copywrited, i have written to the parent company but so far i have not had a reply. I am glad all of this happened because i discovered something by accident.

I always thought that these forums were designed by individuals who shared a common interest in a particular hobby or activity and then created the forums to attract others in where information can be shared and ideas mulled over.

How wrong i was..................

It appears Britishexpats.com is the property of a company called Travelera. It is an advertising agency that picks a forum subject that they use to get people to go onto the site therefore creating traffic then sell the advertising rights to third parties so they can practice selective advertising.

They also have other "properties"

BritishExpats.com
ExpatForums.com
GolfingUpdate.com
theDamnDog.com

How many people are unwittingly being duped into being advertising targets.

Isnt google wonerful, try this site for size

http://travelera.com/

Well Travelera you wont be using me any more.

  1. Hi Lyndon, We had been watching your H&R posts for weeks now with much interest as Paul has been offered a job with them and we were wanting to see how everything has been working out. We found it full of useful information and it is a shame that others spoilt it for you and people like us.Please continue with your blog its great. We are hoping to be out just after christmas, we have to boys 15,13 and a daughter 21 but she is staying behind. Thanks again.

  3. Hi Lyndon, I can't beleve after the time you had put into BE they have banned you, and locked the thread. I have found your input realy helpful and un-biased.
I have put threads on the main forum page with a link to your blog, and was very careful to only use positve wording - but they still got deleted. No rules had been breached, but still they wont allow a large ammount of peple to have access to your blog. They how now threatened to ban me.
Do you know of any similar sites to use, instead of BE?
    Thanks again
    Chris

  4. And then there are the "fake" trucking blogs also. Run by companies not individuals. Or, individuals who are trying to make a buck off their pyramid scheme.

Beware of other bloggers looking for "writers".

p.s. i am dying to read what was said on those forums!

  5. Thank you everybody for your kind words and support, the real satisfaction came with the attitude of the replies, they were totally defensive so we did manage to rattle a few cages, that anne or sue or whatever they are called in the real world, in her last few posts, you could tell she was struggling to keep the forum under control.

People have been posting links to this blog and having their threads and posts deleted. It shows that british expats or Trevelera have their backs against the wall.

Aaron, sorry my friend but i cant publish the replies on the blog, they have placed a copywrite on it, i cant take the risk.

Its proberbly a bunch of crap like the rest of their reply but i wouldnt give them the satisfaction.
