Hi Lyndon, well lets hope they dont have the same view of immigrants in Lethbridge as we do here, but i doubt that 45,000 eastern europeans are going to arrive in Alberta in less than two years !
Ottawa, October 31, 2007 — The Honourable Diane Finley, Minister of Citizenship and Immigration, announced today that Canada expects to welcome between 240,000 and 265,000 newcomers in 2008.
The target is set out in the 2007 Annual Report to Parliament on Immigration tabled today in the House of Commons. The report provides information on immigration activities in 2006 and outlines the immigration plan for 2008.
“Our government believes that immigration plays an important role in building our communities and growing our economy,” said Minister Finley. “The immigration targets tabled today will help ensure that Canada continues to grow and benefit from all that newcomers and their families bring to our country.”
Canada is continuing its humanitarian tradition by, for example, resettling 800 Karen refugees from Thailand and committing to welcoming 2,000 more. Canada also played an important role in negotiations on the protracted situation of Bhutanese refugees in Nepal, agreeing to resettle 5,000 of them over the next few years.
The federal government has also committed an additional $1.3 billion in settlement funding over five years, and $342 million per year ongoing, to help newcomers succeed.
oh! ok then maybe they will, but at least there are more places to hid in Canada looks like i will have to go into hermit mode in the mountains ! , had a look at your videos , keep up the good work, but can you wear a shirt and tie whilst reporting please !!
First of all o the shirt & tie thing, the tux is at the cleaners, got a few marks on it last time i put the snow chains on so no can do there im afraid.
As for the reception youll get as an imigrant...........
The Canadian people are fantastic, as soon as you speak and they hear your accent thy are instantlty your buddy.
Your neighbours want to help you settle in, the company helps you settle in, the shop workers are always polite and friendly.
Hi Lyndon, the reception i had from H&R when i came over in October and what you say about the locals is all true i couldn't get away from people talking to me when i came over and i had a good few nights out with a couple of people i got friendly with who work in the Lodge hotel, they are all so friendly (not like here) Not long to go now.
